CITEC successfully delivers Queensland State Election results
11 September 2006
The Election Results Information System (ERIS) system developed by CITEC for Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) worked without a glitch on Saturday night.
Tony Skippington, CITEC’s Managing Director said “The ERIS system used for the second time in a State Election, provided ‘real time’ election results for the tally room and the Internet for Saturday’s Queensland’s general election.
“It was previously used for the 2004 election and more recent by-elections in Gaven, Redcliffe and Chatsworth.
“The system provides feeds to television media and delivers tally-board output in the election night tally-room using XML technology.
"Last Saturday night was a perfect example of CITEC's ability to provide sophisticated technology and software solutions in a ‘one chance only’, high risk environment.
"There is a high volume of confidential information that needs to be interpreted and processed with no room for mistakes that might affect the result of an election," he said.
The business challenge for CITEC was to design, develop and then maintain a solution that could be used for at least three elections (10 + years). The system is flexible enough to incorporate future requirements, as well as minimizing ongoing support and software licensing costs.
The system was designed and built using a Java J2EE software framework, Oracle Database, and Oracle Internet Application Server.
The ongoing collaborative effort between CITEC and the Commission has provided a system all Queenslanders can rely on.
